Affordable Individual Health Insurance

Choosing healthcare coverage is one of the most important decisions you can make. Studies repeatedly indicate that people without insurance have worse access to care than people who are insured. Receiving preventative care is one of the best ways to avoid chronic illness and disease. In 2016, one in five uninsured adults went without care because of cost. 45% of uninsured adults say they do not have health insurance because the cost is too high. As insurance policies, cost of coverage, and White House administrations change, the amount of uninsured Americans may rise.

The financial implications of not having health insurance are dire. In 2016, uninsured nonelderly adults were twice as likely than insured adults to have problems paying medical bills. For most of these cases, large medical bills quickly turn into debt, especially if the uninsured have moderate incomes and little savings. Although millions of Americans gained coverage under the ACA provisions that went into effect in 2014, current debate surrounding healthcare and the ACA threatens those with federal subsidies and make it difficult for the 27.6 million uninsured to afford insurance.

Insurance Line One began in 2009 as a way to help those who are uninsured afford health insurance. We are one of only a handful of US-based insurance agencies that are certified to underwrite in 50 states. All of our health coverage plans are eligible for ACA, even outside of open enrollment. With health coverage plans starting at $150, we can provide affordable health insurance for you and your family. Call (800) 606-1671 for a free quote.

The Affordable Care Act aims to eliminate pre-existing conditions that have traditionally made plans too expensive or inaccessible by those deemed too risky to insure. It also prohibits insurers from dropping you because you get too sick, and it requires every plan to include 10 categories of essential health benefits:

  • Ambulatory patient services
  • Emergency services
  • Overnight hospitalization
  • Pregnancy, maternity and newborn care
  • Mental health and substance use disorder services
  • Prescription drugs
  • Rehabilitative and habilitative services
  • Laboratory services
  • Preventative and wellness services
  • Pediatric services, including oral and vision care

To receive coverage through the ACA, check out your state’s marketplace. As of 2018, there are 12 state-based marketplaces, five state-based marketplaces that use the federal platform, six state-federal partnership marketplaces, and 28 federally-run marketplaces. In general, you are more likely to find low-cost insurance through the marketplace if you have been considered high-risk to consumers in the past. On the other hand, you may find more affordable health insurance through a private agency if you are young, in good health, and ineligible for subsidies. To find out if you are eligible for federal subsidies, visit this website. Remember, enrolling in a marketplace plan is the only way to reduce monthly premiums and other costs based on your income.

ACA plans are categorized into four tiers: bronze, silver, gold, and platinum. Your plan’s tier depends on how much healthcare costs insurance will cover. For instance, these four categories of plans cover about 60%, 70%, 80%, and 90% of health-care costs. Plans that cover less than 60% of the cost are called catastrophic plans, and they are available for those under 30 or those who qualify for a hardship exemption.

Although there is no guarantee of finding cheaper health plans through the ACA, shopping around is the best way to find cheap insurance. Consult with Insurance Line One to find out if you qualify for special subsidies or cheap private plans. Since 2009, we have provided American families with secure health coverage with affordable premiums. Call (800) 606-1671 for a free consultation.
